On Tuesday’s third day of Montreal 2026, the Junior women finished off this world championships’ time trial program, Poland’s Maria Okrucińska winning the rainbow jersey. As with Spain in the earlier Junior men’s chrono, the gold is Poland’s first medal in the 31 years of Junior women’s time trials. Élodie Malois was top Canadian in 19th.
At Kigali 2025 Dutch rider Megan Arens took the Junior women’s gold medal.
Tuesday’s Canadians were 18-year-olds Elly Moore and national time trial and crit champion Malois. Canada’s Geneviève Jeanson won the title in 1999.
The Junior women received the shortest of the Montreal time trial courses at 10.7 km. The intermediate time check was positioned at the 5.8-km point.
The first junior to roll down the start ramp was Rwandan Donatha Akimana. Mexican Nabyenka Valentina García was one of the early leaders with 16:18, first Lithuanian Augustė Mikutytė eclipsing the mark, then Swiss Anja Grossmann taking the lead.
Elly Moore launched in the middle of the order. She finished provisionally tenth behind Grossmann.
Belgian Yana Decruyenaere topped Grossmann with 15:29 just before Malois assaulted the course.
Malois finished provisionally 12th, but there were several late riders looking strong at the intermediate time check. Pole Maria Okrucińska seized the best intermediate time and then leaped over Decruyenaere with 15:17, snipping Grossmann from the podium. Aalia Clay’s bronze means that Great Britain had claimed one Junior women’s time trial medal in seven of the last eight editions.
Montreal 2026 continues on Thursday with the first road races, U23 women and Junior men.
