Pride

Comic

It’s June, so here’s a comic that’s ostensibly just about trails.

Mainstream Pride is big and fun and important for all the reasons that much smarter people than I have written and talked about for decades. But, growing up, when I was most frustrated by my sexuality, most damned by my knowledge of my own queerness, I didn’t want a parade, or rainbow-painted merch at Target, or meaningless corporate logo updates for the month of June.

Instead, I wish I’d known that my queerness didn’t undermine or ruin any of the things I liked about myself. I wish I could have believed that I could be queer and still like playing around in the mountains and talking shit with the boys. I wish I could tell myself that there’s a future where everybody knows you’re bisexual, and nobody you care about holds that against you, and you can just go on sick bike rides with great people who accept the full reality of your existence.

I wish I could have known how good life was going to get.

Happy Pride.
