The Giannis Antetokounmpo sweepstakes may be over, but the questions surrounding Jaylen Brown and the Boston Celtics are only getting louder.
Boston reportedly entered the race for Antetokounmpo with an offer centered around Brown and two first-round picks.
However, Milwaukee ultimately accepted Miami’s package, which reportedly included four first-round selections, a second-round pick and multiple players, including Tyler Herro.
Even with Antetokounmpo now headed to South Beach, Brown’s future in Boston remains far from certain.
Shortly before the blockbuster deal became official, the C’s star posted a message on Twitch that quickly caught the attention of NBA fans.
“To all the people that’s doubted me, that want me to do this, or want me, you’re turning me into a monster,” Brown said.
After Giannis went to Miami, Shams Charania spoke about the awkward situation in Boston.
“The Celtics and Jaylen Brown will have hard conversations moving forward about the fallout from a trade that didn’t happen … I’ve had a few people tell me last night, you’ve gotta get a deal done if you’re the Celtics.”
Following Tuesday’s NBA Draft, of which there were reports that Brown president of basketball operations Brad Stevens addressed the JB trade rumors, “Jaylen Brown is a big part of us … Obviously, you never know. The one thing I want to make very clear is how valued he’s always been … I don’t want to predict the future but I look at it as, this is our team.”
Brown has previously spoken about feeling overlooked throughout his career despite his accomplishments. That frustration appeared again over the past two seasons.
Despite winning both Eastern Conference Finals MVP and NBA Finals MVP during Boston’s championship run, Brown was left off Team USA’s roster for the 2024 Paris Olympics.
He responded with arguably the best season of his career.
With Jayson Tatum appearing in only 16 games while recovering from a ruptured Achilles tendon, Brown averaged career highs of 28.7 points, 6.9 rebounds and 5.1 assists while finishing sixth in MVP voting.
