Disciplinary action: Andy Young ‘Coach of the Year’ awards are revoked – Scottish Athletics

Wednesday 15th April 2026

Disciplinary decision from UK Athletics

Following the outcome of Disciplinary Hearings on the conduct of coach Andy Young, the Board of scottishathletics have discussed the case and options for further response or sanction.

We can confirm the Board have now approved the recommendation of our Nominations Committee to revoke the Performance Coach of the Year awards made to Andy Young across a period of a number of years.

Our Nominations Committee has the powers to recommend revoking an Award in exceptional circumstances and has agreed unanimously that, in this case, this retrospective sanction is appropriate.

As such, and taking into account the years when charges brought by UK Athletics were upheld (by two panels), we now revoke the Performance Coach of the Year Awards presented in 2016, 2018, 2020 and  2021.

Anyone who may wish to raise a concern about behaviour within the sport is encouraged to contact safeguarding@uka.org.uk or  welfare@scottishathletics.org.uk

Safeguarding concerns can also be submitted via the UKA website – report a concern.
