Sidney Swierenga in white jersey in Portugal

The Canadian contingent just keeps on killing it in Portugal. There are three elite women competing there, and all of them are just smokin’ it.

One day to go

Vancouver’s Sidney Swierenga moved (Liv AlUla Jayco Women’s Continental Team)
into the white jersey at the Volta a Portugal Feminina as the race continued to shift on a disrupted stage four.

The 19-year-old rider took over the young rider classification after a day that reshaped several standings across the board.

Saturday, sorry, Sábado saw the pro women racing from Mealhada to Águeda. It was shortened due to wildfires in central Portugal. but still delivered a super-aggressive and selective race.
After the climb of Luso split the field, a series of attacks formed before being brought back by the peloton.

Stage 4 dynamics

A late crash involving then-leader Emma Siegers proved decisive, costing her time and the overall lead. In the reduced sprint finish, Linda Riedmann took the stage win ahead of Valeria Valgonen. Victoire Berteau took third and moved into the overall lead.

Once again, Guelph, Ont.’s Kiara Lylyk (Mayenne Monbana My Pie) had another great ride, finishing fifth on the day in the reduced sprint group as the general classification got pretty close heading into the final stage.

Sunday is from Oliveira de Azeméis to Santo Tirso, 91km, with some hills to start the day.

Yeah, yeah, the Tour de France is on, but some of these rides by the young Canadian women and men are pretty great!
