On Thursday, Dat 1 of the 2026 Candian road nationals began. Elite men and women, under-23 men and women, junior men and women, under-17 men and women and Para were going for maple leaf jerseys and hardware. Under sunny skies, lots of new champions were crowned.
For the elite men, it was Derek Gee-West, who adds another national title to his very extensive palmarès. Pinarello Q36.5’s Nick Zukowksy, who has been having a great season but unfortunately crashed out of the Giro, showed he’s back, finishing second.

And in the elite women it was Nadia Gontova (Team logoLiv AlUla Jayco) having a great ride beating multiple national champion, Paula Findlay. It’s another terrific result for the 25-year-old pro, who just came off a solid ride at the Giro d’Italia Women.

The under-23 men’s race went to Jonas Walton, who continues to have a great season. Last year he finished 6th at the world championships in the TT. Former world pursuit Carson Mattern took silver.

In the junior women’s, Quebec’s Elodie Malois is the 2026 champ. She had a sizable gap on Ontario’s Elly Moore. Molly Flynn was third.
