Kerr himself acknowledged that reality following the team’s playoff exit in Phoenix, openly reflecting on the natural lifecycle of coaching tenures.
“I still love coaching, but I get it,” Kerr said the night the Warriors were eliminated. “These jobs all have an expiration date. There is a run that happens, and when the run ends, sometimes it’s time for new blood and new ideas.”
Internally, team sources have emphasized that this situation is not driven by conflict, but rather by alignment. The decision will ultimately come down to whether Kerr still wants to coach, and whether both sides believe the current roster can be reshaped into a legitimate contender again.
Golden State holds the 11th slot in the upcoming draft lottery, carrying a 9.4% chance of jumping into the top four, a factor that could influence the direction of the offseason and, by extension, Kerr’s choice.
