Fowler Named WCC Player of the Week for Second Time – University of Portland Athletics

SAN MATEO, Calif. – Portland Pilots forward Alex Fowler was named WCC Player of the Week for the second time this season after two stellar performances on the road.

Fowler averaged 19 points, six rebounds and 2.5 steals per contest in wins over the Saint Mary’s Gaels and the Pacific Tigers. Over the weekend, she eclipsed 1,900 career points as well, becoming the third Pilot ever to do so and just the seventh WCC player. At 1,918 points, she is now just 35 points away from tying Martha Sheldon as the all-time leading scorer among Pilots who only played Division I.

The Townsville, Australia native has been dominant this season, averaging 17.9 points, 5.5 rebounds, 3.5 assists and 1.8 steals per contest. She currently leads the WCC in points per game, free throws made (91) and field-goal percentage (62.1%), ranks second in total points (357), third in steals per game (1.8), fourth in field goals (128) and seventh in assists per game. She is one of five players in NCAA Division I averaging 17.5 points, 5.5 rebounds, 3.5 assists and 1.5 steals per contest.

The Pilots are 14-6 overall and 8-1 in WCC play, their best nine-game start to conference play since the 1996-97 season. They will be back at the Chiles Center this week with games against the Pepperdine Waves and the Loyola Marymount Lions, starting with Pepperdine on Thursday, Jan. 26 at 6 p.m. Check PortlandPilots.com for live stats and video options.
