{"id":974,"date":"2022-12-16T15:42:47","date_gmt":"2022-12-16T15:42:47","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/basketball.runfyers.com\/index.php\/2022\/12\/16\/two-time-euro-cross-winner-aras-kaya-tests-positive-for-epo-aw\/"},"modified":"2022-12-16T15:42:47","modified_gmt":"2022-12-16T15:42:47","slug":"two-time-euro-cross-winner-aras-kaya-tests-positive-for-epo-aw","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/basketball.runfyers.com\/index.php\/2022\/12\/16\/two-time-euro-cross-winner-aras-kaya-tests-positive-for-epo-aw\/","title":{"rendered":"Two-time Euro Cross winner Aras Kaya tests positive for EPO &#8211; AW"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><\/p>\n<div>\n<h5>Kenyan-born Turkish distance runner took European cross-country titles in 2016 and 2019 but will now serve a three-year ban for doping<\/h5>\n<p>Aras Kaya, a two-time European cross-country champion and Olympian at the Rio Games, has been given a three-year ban for doping after testing positive for erythropoietin (EPO).<\/p>\n<p>The 28-year-old, who was born in Kenya as Amos Kibitok before switching nations to represent Turkey, tested positive at the Brasov Running Festival 10km in Brasov, Romania, in September \u2013 a race he failed to finish.<\/p>\n<p>He was given a four-year ban but will only serve three years due to not fighting the case and instead admitting he was at fault.<\/p>\n<p>Kaya won the 2016 Euro Cross senior men\u2019s title by three seconds from Polat Kemboi Arikan in Chia in 2016 with Brits Callum Hawkins, Andy Butchart and Andy Vernon finishing third, fourth and fifth.<\/p>\n<div id=\"attachment_1039963633\" style=\"width: 760px\" class=\"wp-caption alignnone\"><\/p>\n<p id=\"caption-attachment-1039963633\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Aras Kaya (Getty)<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<p>In Lisbon in 2019 Kaya finished runner-up to Robel Fsiha although the Swedish winner tested positive the following year and was banned for four years. Yeman Crippa of Italy, who was third in Lisbon, should now be elevated to the gold medal position.<\/p>\n<p>Kaya moved to Turkey in 2015 and got Turkish citizenship in June 2016.
