We hesitate to add the \u201cnot in our backyard\u201d (literally) rhetoric, but we wanted to send a note before today\u2019s meeting. Safety and privacy for us and our kids continues to be our top priority and one of the biggest reasons we chose Atherton as our home.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Conservatives and progressives alike have been trolling Curry on Twitter, but most of the criticism has been based on the assumption that the objection stemmed from the construction being for affordable housing.<\/p>\n<p>But in the letter, the couple simply reminded council that the proposed townhouses in their area would not fix the issue of low-income housing as required by the state. But clearly, the optics aren\u2019t ideal.<\/p>\n<p>However, member of the council, Rick DeGolia agreed, claiming the construction of low-income housing would not be practical for Atherton because land is priced at $8 million per acre.<\/p>\n<p>Atherton is a small town full of athletes, celebrities and tech moguls.
