Sophmore <dfn><a href=\"https:\/\/wagnerathletics.com\/sports\/womens-basketball\/roster\/rakisha-ballinger\/13973\" rel=\"smarttag noopener\" rev=\"13973\" target=\"_blank\">Rakisha Ballinger<\/a><\/dfn>\u00a0tallied two assists in the quarter.<\/p>\n<p>Iona outscored Wagner 26-21 in the final quarter to preserve the victory.<\/p>\n<p><dfn><a href=\"https:\/\/wagnerathletics.com\/sports\/womens-basketball\/roster\/alex-cowan\/13974\" rel=\"smarttag noopener\" rev=\"13974\" target=\"_blank\">Alex Cowan<\/a><\/dfn>\u00a0all Seahawks with 11 points while <dfn><a href=\"https:\/\/wagnerathletics.com\/sports\/womens-basketball\/roster\/kem-nwabudu\/13978\" rel=\"smarttag noopener\" rev=\"13978\" target=\"_blank\">Kem Nwabudu<\/a><\/dfn>\u00a0recorded 10 points and seven rebounds. Senior <dfn><a href=\"https:\/\/wagnerathletics.com\/sports\/womens-basketball\/roster\/drayah-heyward\/13976\" rel=\"smarttag noopener\" rev=\"13976\" target=\"_blank\">Drayah Heyward<\/a><\/dfn>\u00a0six points and four rebounds.<\/p>\n<p>With 10 points, Nwabudu is six points away from reaching 1,000 for her career.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Milestone Watch<\/strong><br \/>&#13;<br \/>\n<dfn><a href=\"https:\/\/wagnerathletics.com\/sports\/womens-basketball\/roster\/kem-nwabudu\/13978\" rel=\"smarttag noopener\" rev=\"13978\" target=\"_blank\">Kem Nwabudu<\/a><\/dfn> stands six points away from 1,000 for her career. The Elmont, NY native would join 25 other members of the Wagner women&#8217;s basketball program who have eclipsed 1,000 career points.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Seahawks Up To Date<\/strong><br \/>&#13;<br \/>\nWagner opened its season with a 63-60 overtime victory over Manhattan on Monday, November 7.<\/p>\n<p>In a game-high 43 minutes, <dfn><a href=\"https:\/\/wagnerathletics.com\/sports\/womens-basketball\/roster\/kem-nwabudu\/13978\" rel=\"smarttag noopener\" rev=\"13978\" target=\"_blank\">Kem Nwabudu<\/a><\/dfn> tallied 12 points and 11 rebounds. <dfn><a href=\"https:\/\/wagnerathletics.com\/sports\/womens-basketball\/roster\/zhaneia-thybulle\/13980\" rel=\"smarttag noopener\" rev=\"13980\" target=\"_blank\">Zhaneia Thybulle<\/a><\/dfn> tallied seven points, six assists and three rebounds.<\/p>\n<p>Wagner had at least seven players score five or more points against Manhattan.<\/p>\n<p>Through the first two games, <dfn><a href=\"https:\/\/wagnerathletics.com\/sports\/womens-basketball\/roster\/kem-nwabudu\/13978\" rel=\"smarttag noopener\" rev=\"13978\" target=\"_blank\">Kem Nwabudu<\/a><\/dfn> leads Wagner with 11.0 points and 9.0 rebounds per game. <dfn><a href=\"https:\/\/wagnerathletics.com\/sports\/womens-basketball\/roster\/zhaneia-thybulle\/13980\" rel=\"smarttag noopener\" rev=\"13980\" target=\"_blank\">Zhaneia Thybulle<\/a><\/dfn> leads the team with 5.0 assists per game in the early season. Both players lead the Seahawks with 34.5 minutes per game played.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Preseason Favorites<\/strong><br \/>&#13;<br \/>\nThe Wagner women&#8217;s basketball program was predicted to finish first in the league&#8217;s annual preseason poll.<\/p>\n<p>Selected by the league&#8217;s head coaches as the 2022-23 NEC preseason favorite, Wagner has its sights set on claiming the NEC title, a feat that has only occurred just one other time, back in 1989. It marked the first time in 30-plus years \u2014 and quite possibly the first time in program history \u2014 that the Seahawks earned No. 1 preseason status.<\/p>\n<p>The Seahawks, who came short of reaching the NEC Championship game a year ago after falling in the semifinals, earned five first-place votes to secure the moniker of &#8220;preseason favorite&#8221;.<\/p>\n<p>Behind Wagner is FDU, who received three first-place votes while St. Francis Brooklyn checked in third in the preseason poll. Behind the Terriers is Saint Francis U, who received\u00a0one first-place vote.<\/p>\n<p>Rounding out the rest of the preseason poll is Merrimack, Sacred Heart, LIU, Central Connecticut State and Stonehill.<\/p>\n<p><strong><dfn><a href=\"https:\/\/wagnerathletics.com\/sports\/womens-basketball\/roster\/zhaneia-thybulle\/13980\" rel=\"smarttag noopener\" rev=\"13980\" target=\"_blank\">Zhaneia Thybulle<\/a><\/dfn> Earns Preseason NEC Honors<\/strong><br \/>&#13;<br \/>\nThe third team All-NEC selection and Preseason All-NEC pick dished out 5-or-more dimes 16 times last season and had a pair of 11-assist outings to add to her resum\u00e9.<\/p>\n<p>Last season, Thybulle averaged 10.1 points per game, 4.8 rebounds per game, 5.1 assists per game, 1.4 steals per game, and a 40.6% field goal percentage.<\/p>\n<p>Thybulle&#8217;s assist average and 144 assists were tops in the NEC last season.<\/p>\n<p><strong>About Brown<\/strong>&#13;<br \/>\n&#13;\n<\/p>\n<p>The Bears opened the season with a 62-52 loss against Fairfield on Monday, November 7.<\/p>\n<p>In its second game of the season, Brown took on Duquesne on Friday, November 11 and fell to the Dukes 77-69.<\/p>\n<p>Isabella Mauricio tallied a career-high 27 points.
