PORTLAND, Ore.\u00a0—\u00a0<\/b>Alex Fowler became the Portland Pilots’ all-time leading scorer at the NCAA Division I level in their 58-39 win over the LMU Lions.<\/p>\n
The Pilots (16-6, 10-1) had two players score in double figures, led by Emme Shearer, who put together a double-double with 12 points and 10 rebounds. Fowler tacked on 10 points, four assists, four steals and two blocks and Maisie Burnham added eight points and nine rebounds.<\/p>\n
Portland’s defense held Loyola Marymount to only 7.1% shooting from beyond the arc and 23.7%from the field. That’s the lowest field-goal percentage that the Pilots have held an opponent to this season.<\/p>\n
How It Happened<\/strong><\/p>\nIn a low-scoring first quarter, the Pilots went on an 8-0 run to take an early 8-2 lead. The Pilots then lost some of that lead, but still entered the quarter break with a 12-7 advantage.<\/p>\n
Portland kept its first quarter lead intact before going on a dominant\u00a020-0 run starting at the 9:04 mark in the second period, highlighted by a three from Frawley, to increase its lead to 32-7. The Lions scored only once in the quarter to make it 32-9 Pilots at the half.<\/p>\n
Portland continued to preserve its halftime lead before going on an 8-0 run, punctuated by a basket from Emily Sewell, to expand its advantage to 40-14 with 1:29 to go in the third. Before the conclusion of the third period, the Lions had cut into that lead somewhat, but the Pilots still entered the fourth quarter with a 42-20 edge. Portland played well near the basket, scoring all 10 third-quarter points in the paint.<\/p>\n
The Pilots then held on for the victory in the fourth quarter, with Fowler breaking the career scoring record with two free throws.<\/p>\n
