Sacramento Kings<\/a> head coach Mike Brown has entered the NBA\u2019s Health and Safety Protocols, the team announced on Tuesday afternoon.<\/p>\n

It\u2019s unclear how many games Brown will miss, but he will almost certainly miss both home games against the Denver Nuggets<\/a> on Tuesday and Wednesday night. After that, the Kings will host the Utah Jazz<\/a> on Friday and then travel to Memphis to face the Grizzlies on New Year\u2019s Eve. <\/p>\n

According to Marc Spears of Andscape and ESPN<\/a>, Brown has \u201cmild symptoms and hopes to be cleared to coach soon.\u201d<\/p>\n

Brown has been a great steward for this Kings team this season, helping the team get to its current 17-14 record in his first season as head coach, which is currently good for sixth place in the Western Conference.<\/p>\n

In Brown\u2019s absence, assistant Jordi Fern\u00e1ndez will be the team\u2019s acting head coach.<\/p>\n

Earlier this month, Brown was ejected from a game against the Toronto Raptors<\/a> for arguing a foul call, and the Kings were able to rally from a double-digit deficit and win that game, with Fern\u00e1ndez stepping into Brown\u2019s role.<\/p>\n

Based on interviews and reading the tea leaves, Fern\u00e1ndez seems like a popular guy in the Kings\u2019 locker room. At the team\u2019s Tuesday shootaround, the team sang happy birthday to Fern\u00e1ndez, who was celebrating his 40th on Tuesday.<\/p>\n

Despite the negative news of Brown\u2019s absence, this should be a good opportunity for Fern\u00e1ndez to step up into the main role and help shepherd the team for a few games. Coincidentally, Fern\u00e1ndez spent the last six seasons on Denver\u2019s coaching staff alongside former Kings head coach Michael Malone.<\/p>\n

Hopefully, the team can rally around Fern\u00e1ndez for however long Brown is out sick and get some much-needed wins, and a victory over his former team as the Kings\u2019 acting head coach would be quite the birthday present for Fern\u00e1ndez to receive on Tuesday night.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n
