Athletics in Scotland can continue to maintain growth and momentum via a strong team effort by our clubs.<\/p>\n
That was the over-riding feeling from our 2026 Annual General Meeting.<\/p>\n
The AGM covered the year from 1 April 2025 to 31 March 2026 and looking back on those 12 months thus didn\u2019t cover the Glasgow 2026 Commonwealth Games.<\/p>\n
Minor rises in membership and affiliation fees were agreed as well as rubberstamping key volunteer roles with our Commissions (see list at foot of this article).<\/p>\n
We are delighted to confirm that the AGM was happy to support recommendations for Honorary Life Membership (HLM) status for three long-serving stalwarts of our sport;\u00a0Dave Cairns<\/strong> (Penicuik), John Mackay<\/strong> (Shettleston Harriers), and Willie Russell<\/strong> (Banchory and Stonehaven AC).<\/p>\n Their HLM status will be formally conferred at our 4J Annual Awards Dinner in Glasgow on Saturday 14 November.<\/p>\n Many congratulations and thank you to David, John and Willie for their outstanding commitment and service to our sport.<\/p>\n Our newly confirmed Honorary Life Members (L-R): Dave Cairns, John Mackay, Willie Russell<\/strong><\/p>\n Changes within our Board were also confirmed. Eilidh Doyle<\/strong> stood down with our thanks after serving eight years via two four-year terms.<\/p>\n The contribution of Terry O\u2019Hare<\/strong> was also acknowledged, with him having stepped down from his role on the Board earlier this year.<\/p>\n Jack McConnell<\/strong> also retired as Honorary President after two terms.<\/p>\n The AGM approved the appointments of three new non-executive directors;\u00a0Chris Grant<\/strong>, Garry McKay<\/strong> and Graeme Oudney<\/strong>.<\/p>\n Our thanks as Eilidh leaves Board and we welcome Claire, Chris \u2013 Scottish Athletics<\/a><\/p>\n Changes to membership fees were agreed, with a rise of \u00a31 across most categories from next April and similarly affiliation fees by 50p per athlete.<\/p>\n The AGM agreed projected fees (from April 2027) as follows:<\/p>\n Senior Membership \u00a326; U21 Membership \u00a316; Coach Membership \u00a329 for three years; U13 Membership \u00a313; Over 65 Membership \u00a318; Senior Membership unattached \u00a355; Corporate \u00a362; Family \u00a365<\/p>\n Club Affiliation fee (first claim) \u00a38.50. Club Affiliation fee (second claim) \u00a34.50.<\/p>\n +++<\/p>\n scottish<\/strong>athletics President, John Rodger<\/strong>, opened the meeting by acknowledging some of the highlights of the reporting period, despite also facing some challenges.<\/p>\n These challenges were largely related to securing the future of Grangemouth Stadium, alongside financial challenges in part due to promised funding for sport from the Scottish Government not materialising at the level previously indicated.<\/p>\n \u2018We can say with confidence that scottish<\/strong>athletics experienced another year of strong membership, international success, progress in club development, and growing digital reach, while also facing significant challenges in finance and facility security.\u2019<\/p>\n Chief executive Colin Hutchison<\/strong> spoke to the meeting to approve the Annual Report.<\/p>\n \u2018This has been a year of significant progress and achievement for scottish<\/strong>athletics, both on and off the track.<\/p>\n \u2018The Annual Report for 2025\/26 covers the work undertaken across the past 12 months.<\/p>\n \u2018What is clear throughout this report is the vital role played by our member clubs, athletes, coaches, officials, volunteers and partners in helping athletics thrive across Scotland.<\/p>\n \u2018From a performance perspective, it has been another outstanding year for Scottish athletes on the international stage \u2013 in various disciplines.<\/p>\n \u2018Among the highlights, Josh Kerr won the Men\u2019s 3000m gold at the World Athletics Indoor Championships in Torun, Poland.<\/p>\n \u2018Jake Wightman claimed silver in the 1500m at the World Championships in Tokyo.
