In the men\u2019s road race, the absence of Tadej Poga\u010dar has <a target=\"_self\" class=\"article-content-link text-brand-primary underline hover:text-brand-primary\/85 break-words overflow-wrap-anywhere underline-offset-[3px]\" data-afl-p=\"0\" href=\"https:\/\/velo.outsideonline.com\/road\/road-racing\/pogacar-out-re-ranking-the-favorites-for-uci-road-worlds\/\" rel=\"noopener\">blown the race wide open<\/a>, so expect a thriller.<\/p>\n<p>For the time trials, you needn\u2019t look much further than <a target=\"_self\" class=\"article-content-link text-brand-primary underline hover:text-brand-primary\/85 break-words overflow-wrap-anywhere underline-offset-[3px]\" data-afl-p=\"0\" href=\"https:\/\/velo.outsideonline.com\/road\/road-racing\/arms-thigh-evenepoel-aero\/\" rel=\"noopener\">three-time defending champion<\/a> Evenepoel and 2025 world champion Marlen Reusser.<\/p>\n<p>U.S. fans should pay particular attention to the racing in this first North American worlds since Richmond 2015. USA Cycling hasn\u2019t put out such a <a target=\"_self\" class=\"article-content-link text-brand-primary underline hover:text-brand-primary\/85 break-words overflow-wrap-anywhere underline-offset-[3px]\" data-afl-p=\"0\" href=\"https:\/\/velo.outsideonline.com\/road\/road-racing\/usa-cycling-world-championships-team-2026\/\" rel=\"noopener\">strong selection<\/a> in years, in both the men\u2019s and women\u2019s races.<\/p>\n<p>Simmons, Matteo Jorgenson, and Brandon McNulty give the U.S. serious hopes of a men\u2019s road race medal.<\/p>\n<p>Faulkner and <a target=\"_self\" class=\"article-content-link text-brand-primary underline hover:text-brand-primary\/85 break-words overflow-wrap-anywhere underline-offset-[3px]\" data-afl-p=\"0\" href=\"https:\/\/velo.outsideonline.com\/road\/road-gear\/kate-courtney-fdj-united-suez-road-racing-interview\/\" rel=\"noopener\">crossover star Kate Courtney<\/a> are very strong wildcards for the women\u2019s.
