{"id":130055,"date":"2026-09-14T08:00:55","date_gmt":"2026-09-14T08:00:55","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/basketball.runfyers.com\/index.php\/2026\/09\/14\/jemma-lands-brilliant-5th-avenue-course-record-melanie-great-north-win-scottish-athletics\/"},"modified":"2026-09-14T08:00:55","modified_gmt":"2026-09-14T08:00:55","slug":"jemma-lands-brilliant-5th-avenue-course-record-melanie-great-north-win-scottish-athletics","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/basketball.runfyers.com\/index.php\/2026\/09\/14\/jemma-lands-brilliant-5th-avenue-course-record-melanie-great-north-win-scottish-athletics\/","title":{"rendered":"Jemma lands brilliant 5th Avenue Course Record &#8211; Melanie Great North win &#8211; Scottish Athletics"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><\/p>\n<div>\n<p class=\"meta-date\">Monday 14th September 2026<\/p>\n<p>\t\t\t\t\t<\/p>\n<p><strong>Photo with thanks to Jane Monti for Race Results Weekly<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.dyestat.com\/gprofile.php?mgroup_id=44531&amp;do=news&amp;news_id=675393\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Report on Dyestat.com<\/a><\/p>\n<p><strong>Jemma Reekie<\/strong> claimed the third<strong> 5<sup>th<\/sup> Avenue Mile<\/strong> title of her career in New York on Sunday.<\/p>\n<p>And the redoubtable Scot,\u00a0 in fine form on the roads over the past coupe of weeks, did so with a New Course Record for the famous American race.<\/p>\n<p>Jemma was clocked at 4:13.8 on the 5<sup>th<\/sup> Avenue Mile route \u2013 faster than her\u00a0 European Reocrd set a week earlier in Germany.<\/p>\n<p>None other than <strong>Laura Muir<\/strong> held the Course Record prior to that with 4:14.8 \u2013 held jointly with <strong>Karissa Schweizer<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p>The New York course is deemed downhill by nine metes and this not eligible for wider Record purposes.<\/p>\n<p>Jemma won the race in 2021 and 2023 and pulled ahead just after halfway to post a really dominant victory. Fellow Scot <strong>Sarah Calvert<\/strong> was 12<sup>th<\/sup> in 4:25.<\/p>\n<p>+++<\/p>\n<p><iframe loading=\"lazy\" title=\"Mel Woods reflects on Great North Run win in sunny Newcastle \" width=\"696\" height=\"392\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/k-JlEOCGJ5I?feature=oembed\" frameborder=\"0\" allow=\"accelerometer; autoplay; clipboard-write; encrypted-media; gyroscope; picture-in-picture; web-share\" referrerpolicy=\"strict-origin-when-cross-origin\" allowfullscreen><\/iframe><\/p>\n<p><strong>With thanks to Euan Crumley for AW<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>Melanie Woods<\/strong> was a star at the Commonwealth Games with double gold in the wheelchair track events,<\/p>\n<p>And the top Scottish Para athlete took that form to the roads to win the Women\u2019s race at the Great North Run.<\/p>\n<p>Melanie raced with the men and finished eighth overall as she clocked a performance of 50.19 for the half marathon course.<\/p>\n<p>The Red Star AC athlete, who is coached by<strong> Rodger Harkins<\/strong>, then shared the podium photos with men\u2019s winner, David Weir,<\/p>\n<p><strong>Andy Butchart<\/strong> went sub 63 minutes in his second half marathon in eight days.
