The previous time was 33:12 so a really significant margin there from Fiona.<\/p>\n<p><em>Congratulations!<\/em><\/p>\n<p><strong>Jamie Crowe<\/strong> won the race with the Central AC athlete at 22:58 to break his own Course Record for this event by some 32 seconds. Jame also close to the Scottish Best for Men\u2019s Five Miles,<\/p>\n<p>Thanks to <strong>Mark Crawford<\/strong> for bringing these performances to our attention.<\/p>\n<p>+++<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.scottishathletics.org.uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/07\/Ian-Beattie-with-Glasgow-Caledonian-University-Hon-Doctorate.jpg\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-large wp-image-116965\" src=\"https:\/\/www.scottishathletics.org.uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/07\/Ian-Beattie-with-Glasgow-Caledonian-University-Hon-Doctorate-1024x683.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"1024\" height=\"683\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.scottishathletics.org.uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/07\/Ian-Beattie-with-Glasgow-Caledonian-University-Hon-Doctorate-1024x683.jpg 1024w, https:\/\/www.scottishathletics.org.uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/07\/Ian-Beattie-with-Glasgow-Caledonian-University-Hon-Doctorate-300x200.jpg 300w, https:\/\/www.scottishathletics.org.uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/07\/Ian-Beattie-with-Glasgow-Caledonian-University-Hon-Doctorate-768x512.jpg 768w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 1024px) 100vw, 1024px\"\/><\/a><\/p>\n<p><strong>Photo via Glasgow Caledonian University<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Former <strong>scottish<\/strong>athletics Chair <strong>Ian Beattie<\/strong> has shared his pride in the sport\u2019s grassroots growth across Scotland as his contribution was celebrated with a special honour.<\/p>\n<p>The current UK Athletics Chair has been presented with an honorary doctorate from Glasgow Caledonian University, recognising his achievements in athletics.<\/p>\n<p>It is an accolade which marks not only his work in the sport at its highest levels, but also in communities \u2013 as a competitor, coach and volunteer with various clubs over many years.<\/p>\n<p>\u2018What\u2019s really nice about this is that it\u2019s not just about the higher profile roles I have had, but my involvement in the grassroots side, including coaching endurance groups and being involved in a number of clubs,\u2019 said Ian.<\/p>\n<p>Ian\u2019s role in helping to lead our sport during nine years as Chair of <strong>scottish<\/strong>athletics is widely acknowledged, recognised by an MBE in 2020.<\/p>\n<p>\u2018Actually leading something was quite different and gave me more of a chance to drive the strategy and work with the team to do that. What the team achieved \u2013 what the whole of the sport achieved \u00a0\u2013 was just outstanding.<\/p>\n<p>\u2018We did it through a focus on the clubs, recognising that, if we galvanised thousands of volunteers across the clubs to work in the same direction, great things could be achieved.
