Their kit hauls will reflect their seismic bank balance.<\/p>\n<h2>Breaking down the basics of a Tour de France tech truck<\/h2>\n<figure id=\"attachment_991130\" class=\"pom-image-wrap relegated French crew will take 40 Look bicycles, 80 wheelsets, 100 spare tires, and 8 spare frames on the Tour.<\/p>\n<p>Per some back-of-a-napkin math, that\u2019s worth more than $1m.<\/p>\n<p>The bicycles alone are worth more than $600k.<\/p>\n<p>Trusty <em><a target=\"_blank\" class=\"article-content-link text-brand-primary underline hover:text-brand-primary\/85 break-words overflow-wrap-anywhere underline-offset-[3px]\" data-afl-p=\"0\" href=\"https:\/\/www.ownluxuryhomes.com\/markets\/national\/what-budget-buys\/what-does-500000-buy-in-real-estate\" rel=\"noopener\">Own Luxury Homes<\/a><\/em> tells me that\u2019s enough for a \u201csolid 3-bedroom residence in a good school district\u201d in areas like Charlotte or Nashville.<\/p>\n<p>No wonder text-brand-primary underline hover:text-brand-primary\/85 break-words overflow-wrap-anywhere underline-offset-[3px]\" data-afl-p=\"0\" href=\"https:\/\/velo.outsideonline.com\/road\/road-gear\/new-bike-tech-look-795-blade-zipp-404s\/\" rel=\"noopener\">freshly launched<\/a> Look 795 Blade RS3, which retails at ~$15k a pop. The remaining 16 (2 per rider) will be the Look 796 Monoblade time trial bike.<\/p>\n<p>And the bikes and wheelsets are only the big-ticket items inside a team\u2019s equipment vehicle.<\/p>\n<p>We <a target=\"_self\" class=\"article-content-link text-brand-primary underline hover:text-brand-primary\/85 break-words overflow-wrap-anywhere underline-offset-[3px]\" data-afl-p=\"0\" href=\"https:\/\/velo.outsideonline.com\/road\/road-racing\/tour-de-france\/how-much-tech-and-equipment-teams-take-to-the-tour-de-france\/\" rel=\"noopener\">calculated last year<\/a> that teams take around 100 spare cassettes, 30 spare chains, and around a dozen spare head units to the Tour de France. They were later recovered. <\/span> (Photo: SAMEER AL-DOUMY\/AFP via Getty Images)<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>The sheer volume of \u201cstuff\u201d a team takes on Tour is insane.<\/p>\n<p>Some of the most eye-catching items in the Cofidis equipment haul include 40 helmets, 40 skinsuits, 7 treatment tables, and 3,000 bidons.<\/p>\n<p>That\u2019s all packed up into a caravan of 12 vehicles, including a state-of-the-art bus, several directors\u2019 cars, and a kitchen truck.<\/p>\n<p>Thankfully, teams are now increasingly pivoting to \u201cgreen fleets\u201d of electric vehicles.
