{"id":124305,"date":"2026-07-01T08:46:55","date_gmt":"2026-07-01T08:46:55","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/basketball.runfyers.com\/index.php\/2026\/07\/01\/every-american-mexican-canadian-in-the-2026-tour-de-france\/"},"modified":"2026-07-01T08:46:55","modified_gmt":"2026-07-01T08:46:55","slug":"every-american-mexican-canadian-in-the-2026-tour-de-france","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/basketball.runfyers.com\/index.php\/2026\/07\/01\/every-american-mexican-canadian-in-the-2026-tour-de-france\/","title":{"rendered":"Every American, Mexican, Canadian in the 2026 Tour de France"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><\/p>\n<div>\n<div class=\"article-body\">\n<p>Updated July 1, 2026 03:06AM<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<p>There almost certainly won\u2019t be an <a target=\"_self\" class=\"article-content-link text-brand-primary underline hover:text-brand-primary\/85 break-words overflow-wrap-anywhere underline-offset-[3px]\" data-afl-p=\"0\" href=\"https:\/\/velo.outsideonline.com\/tag\/american-racing\" rel=\"noopener\">American winner<\/a> at the 2026 <a target=\"_self\" class=\"article-content-link text-brand-primary underline hover:text-brand-primary\/85 break-words overflow-wrap-anywhere underline-offset-[3px]\" data-afl-p=\"0\" href=\"https:\/\/velo.outsideonline.com\/tag\/tour-de-france\" rel=\"noopener\">Tour de France<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>But there\u2019s a very good chance a North American will help decide who does.<\/p>\n<p>From climbing lieutenants to stage hunters and rising stars, the continent\u2019s eight riders will be working to win stages, support yellow jersey contenders, and perhaps write a little Tour history of their own.<\/p>\n<p>Six Americans will line up alongside one Canadian and one Mexican when cycling\u2019s biggest race rolls out from Barcelona.<\/p>\n<p>The biggest storyline is Mexico\u2019s return. <a target=\"_self\" class=\"article-content-link text-brand-primary underline hover:text-brand-primary\/85 break-words overflow-wrap-anywhere underline-offset-[3px]\" data-afl-p=\"0\" href=\"https:\/\/velo.outsideonline.com\/tag\/isaac-del-toro\" rel=\"noopener\">Isaac del Toro<\/a> will become the first Mexican to start the Tour since Miguel Arroyo in 1997 and only the third rider from the country ever to compete in the race.<\/p>\n<p>The United States again provides the backbone of the continent\u2019s presence. This year\u2019s six starters are one more than in 2025 and about the average over the past 15 years.<\/p>\n<p>Canada, meanwhile, is down to a lone representative with <a target=\"_self\" class=\"article-content-link text-brand-primary underline hover:text-brand-primary\/85 break-words overflow-wrap-anywhere underline-offset-[3px]\" data-afl-p=\"0\" href=\"https:\/\/velo.outsideonline.com\/tag\/derek-gee-west\" rel=\"noopener\">Derek Gee-West<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>Here\u2019s who they are, what they\u2019ll be racing for, and why they matter.<\/p>\n<h2>Isaac del Toro (UAE Emirates-XRG), 22<\/h2>\n<figure id=\"attachment_982114\" class=\"pom-image-wrap photo-alignnone\"><figcaption class=\"pom-caption\"><span class=\"article__caption\">Del Toro makes his highly anticipated Tour debut. <\/span> (Photo: Dario Belingheri\/Getty Images)<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>Leading the way is <a target=\"_blank\" class=\"article-content-link text-brand-primary underline hover:text-brand-primary\/85 break-words overflow-wrap-anywhere underline-offset-[3px]\" data-afl-p=\"0\" href=\"https:\/\/www.instagram.com\/isaac_deltoro_romero1\/\" rel=\"noopener\">Isaac del Toro<\/a>, the rider packing some of the biggest expectations of this Tour.<\/p>\n<p>Alongside Paul Seixas, the 22-year-old from Baja California headlines this year\u2019s class of Tour rookies.<\/p>\n<p>He\u2019s already established himself as one of the peloton\u2019s elite young stage racers after hitting second at last year\u2019s Giro d\u2019Italia and winning the UAE Tour, Tirreno-Adriatico, and Tour Auvergne-Rh\u00f4ne-Alpes this season.<\/p>\n<p>His debut comes nearly four decades after Ra\u00fal Alcal\u00e1 became Mexico\u2019s first Tour starter in 1986. If all of France is following Seixas, the same is certainly for Del Toro in Mexico.<\/p>\n<p>His primary mission will be to help Tadej Poga\u010dar chase another yellow jersey.<\/p>\n<p>But don\u2019t be surprised to see Del Toro be cut loose to chase a stage victory, challenge for the white jersey, or even ride into podium contention. He\u2019s that good.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIt\u2019s something that puts peace in your mind when you are going in the right direction,\u201d Del Toro said. \u201cI don\u2019t want to push super hard in my mind. (Photo: Billy Ceusters\/Getty Images)<\/span><\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>Jorgenson arrives as the highest-ranked American in the peloton.<\/p>\n<p>The Idahoan can climb, time trial, and be ever-steady consistent across a three weeks, making him one of Visma-Lease a Bike\u2019s most versatile riders.<\/p>\n<p>His impressive spring campaign was interrupted by a broken collarbone at Amstel Gold Race, but he recovered quickly to finish fourth overall at the Tour Auvergne-Rh\u00f4ne-Alpes.<\/p>\n<p>His main job will be to help Vingegaard challenge Poga\u010dar for the yellow jersey. The \u201cMail Man\u2019s\u201d lone exception was at the 2025 Giro, when he didn\u2019t start the race that Simon Yates won for the Dutch squad.<\/p>\n<p>The Colorado native remains the last American to win a Grand Tour, with the 2023 Vuelta a Espa\u00f1a. Earlier this season, he became just the second American male to officially win stages in all three Grand Tours after taking a Giro d\u2019Italia stage, joining Tyler Farrar in that exclusive club.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI still genuinely enjoy sacrificing myself for a leader like Jonas,\u201d Kuss said. \u201cIt\u2019s never even a question when I see how strong he is. I wouldn\u2019t really call it a sacrifice. If anything, I feel lucky to be able to help such an exceptional rider chase success. Without a GC contender, Quinn should have opportunities to chase breakaways on the Tour\u2019s hilly and medium mountain stages.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI\u2019m pretty proud to be there,\u201d Quinn said. \u201cThe last two years have been extremely rocky, due to a lot of stuff out of my control. (Photo by MARCO BERTORELLO\/AFP via Getty Images)<\/span><\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>Simmons returns for his fourth Tour de France determined to finally claim the stage victory that\u2019s so far eluded him.<\/p>\n<p>The Coloradan will wear the U.S. national champion\u2019s jersey at the Tour for the third time, giving American fans another chance to cheer one of the peloton\u2019s most aggressive attackers.<\/p>\n<p>Lidl-Trek will be racing to support Juan Ayuso, but Simmons is hopeful he will get a few shots at breakaways on the Tour\u2019s rolling and medium mountain stages.
