In a video posted by Red Bull Bike, Iles drops into Schladming on what looks like a late-1990s Trek. It isn\u2019t. But it is the kind of bike many older riders would have lusted over. At the time it was cutting edge. Now it\u2019s a museum piece.<\/p>\n
\u201cOh my god. Oh my god,\u201d Iles says almost immediately.<\/p>\n
Things don\u2019t improve from there.<\/p>\n
\u201cIt feels like I\u2019m riding on plastic.\u201d<\/p>\n
A few corners later he starts sounding slightly more confident.<\/p>\n
\u201cOh, actually feel like I\u2019m kind of ripping.\u201d<\/p>\n
Then reality returns.<\/p>\n
\u201cAll I\u2019ve been doing is bottoming out on everything.\u201d<\/p>\n
Suspension optional<\/h2>\n
The bike continues trying its best to eject him. At one point he loses his rear brake. Later he loses his chain. His forearms are pumped. The suspension is overwhelmed. The bike sounds like it is one hard drop away from becoming two bikes.<\/p>\n
\u201cOh, my forearms. I don\u2019t know what people did this.\u201d<\/p>\n
In an attempt to be fair, commenters quickly pointed out that downhill tracks looked different 30 years ago.<\/p>\n
\u201cThe courses weren\u2019t as gnarly as they are these days back then,\u201d wrote one commenter. \u201cThey were gnarly just not as big and nasty.\u201d<\/p>\n
Others reminded younger riders that this thing would\u2019ve been considered a dream build at the time.<\/p>\n
