The Canadian national champion was <a href=\"https:\/\/cyclingmagazine.ca\/sections\/news\/gee-wests-giro-gc-hopes-suffer-blow-after-getting-caught-up-in-nasty-crash\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">caught up in a massive crash as the Grand Tour traversed slippery roads<\/a>. Everyone knows that the first stages are like that.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Still, this stage stood out.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIt was a very crazy finale. First there was that heavy crash, then the neutralization, followed by uncertainty about where the stage would resume, and finally that super-explosive climb,\u201d Ciccone recalled. \u201cIt\u2019s a shame about the finish, because it really was a tough day.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>UAE Emirates-XRG\u2019s Ant\u00f3nio Morgado was more blunt.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI think everyone knew that with this road surface, someone was bound to fall,\u201d the Portugese rider told Eurosport. \u201cUnfortunately, we were unlucky.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe road was incredibly slippery, which is why there was such a big fight for position,\u201d Morgado added. \u201cWe went through the corner and then we crashd. I\u2019m in some pain myself, but we\u2019re not going to give up.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Racing at the 2026 Giro d\u2019Italia continues on Sunday.
