The German brand bought Fazua in 2022, acquiring a well-established motor technology to support its e-bike efforts.<\/p>\n<p>Now Porsche is shutting down its e-bike division (Porsche eBike Performance GmbH). Fazua, founded back in 2013, looks to be going down with the ship. And Fazua supplies motor systems many more brands than just Porsche. Cervelo, Santa Cruz, Canyon, YT, Ari, Lapierre, Ghost, Pivot, Salsa, Transition, Gazelle, and Wilier Trestina are all on the list of brands that do, or have recently offered e-bikes or eMTB with Fazua motors.<\/p>\n<p>All of those brands will see changes to support. Even if, as road.cc reports, Porsche follows through on the promise of \u201cLong term access to spare parts and service\u201d this could be a big problem for both customers and brands.<\/p>\n<p>Motor systems are about the furthest thing from a standardised component in mountain biking, with almost every brand using its own mounting structure to attach to the frame. That means you cant just drop a new motor into a frame if you want to change systems. Neither can a brand who, like Canyon, has invested in building a significant portion of its e-bike line around Fazua systems.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/cyclingmagazine.ca\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/03\/Porsche-eBike-Taycan-Cross-Turismo-2.jpeg\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><\/a><\/p>\n<h2>Why is Porsche shuttering its e-bike effort?<\/h2>\n<p>Aside from the fact that Porsche\u2019s e-bikes never looked very good, unless you like the look of anything with the Porsche logo on it, the car brand is citing market conditions.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cDue to fundamentally changed market conditions for e\u2011bike drive systems, the activities of the joint venture will be discontinued. This measure is in line with Porsche AG\u2019s strategic focus on its core business,\u201d a statement from Porsche reads.<\/p>\n<p>This could be the introduction of DJI subsidiary, Avinox and its new motor systems. Or the rocky global economy. Or something else. But the closure of the e-bike division isn\u2019t the only reductions at Porsche. The statement says the e-bike wing accounts for roughly 360 jobs of the 500 cut on Friday.<\/p>\n<p>It will be interesting to see what happens next for Fazua. If someone like Canyon, that is heavily invested in the system and a large enough business, decides to save the brand, it could continue.
