{"id":119736,"date":"2026-05-04T07:51:13","date_gmt":"2026-05-04T07:51:13","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/basketball.runfyers.com\/index.php\/2026\/05\/04\/scaling-heights-naomi-and-scout-star-in-gb-trial-to-lead-scots-in-selection-race-to-slovenia-scottish-athletics\/"},"modified":"2026-05-04T07:51:13","modified_gmt":"2026-05-04T07:51:13","slug":"scaling-heights-naomi-and-scout-star-in-gb-trial-to-lead-scots-in-selection-race-to-slovenia-scottish-athletics","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/basketball.runfyers.com\/index.php\/2026\/05\/04\/scaling-heights-naomi-and-scout-star-in-gb-trial-to-lead-scots-in-selection-race-to-slovenia-scottish-athletics\/","title":{"rendered":"Scaling heights: Naomi and Scout star in GB trial to lead Scots in selection race to Slovenia &#8211; Scottish Athletics"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><\/p>\n<div>\n<p class=\"meta-date\">Monday 4th May 2026<\/p>\n<p>\t\t\t\t\t<\/p>\n<p><strong>By Angela Mudge<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.sportident.co.uk\/results\/BritishAthletics\/2026\/Trial\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Results from Sunday trial race<\/a><\/p>\n<p>Scotland\u2019s mountain runners had a very successful weekend at <strong>European Off-Road Running Championship<\/strong> trials in Cumbria.<\/p>\n<p>There were eight races across the Senior and U20 age categories, where the first two eligible finishers in each race gained automatic selection for the EORRC.<\/p>\n<p>Scotland\u2019s U20 men cleaned up in Friday\u2019s uphill only event, with our athletes finishing in the top four positions.<\/p>\n<p><strong> Rowan Taylor<\/strong> (Lasswade) won by five seconds from <strong>Kieran Hardie<\/strong> (Harmeny), with <strong>Lachlan Thomas<\/strong> (Ross County) and<strong> Joel Gillan<\/strong> (Central) in third and fourth for a brilliant collective effort.<\/p>\n<p>The U20 women also secured two automatic places with <strong>Jess Taylor<\/strong> (Edinburgh) winning by over a minute from <strong>Nancy Corrie<\/strong> (Harmeny) in second. <strong>Hania Czebresuk<\/strong> (Aberdeen) also climbed strongly to finish in fourth place.<\/p>\n<p>The Senior athletes ran to the summit of Skiddaw and Scotland-based athlete <strong>Matt Knowles<\/strong> (Carnethy) covered the 8.6km with 960m of ascent in 43.21. <strong>Scout Adkin<\/strong> was second woman home and also gains automatic selection. <strong>Nancy Scott<\/strong> (Edinburgh) was third and <strong>Kirsty Dickson<\/strong> (Carnethy) finished fourth to offer selection hope.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.scottishathletics.org.uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/05\/junmen2.jpg\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-large wp-image-115449\" src=\"https:\/\/www.scottishathletics.org.uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/05\/junmen2-1024x758.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"1024\" height=\"758\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.scottishathletics.org.uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/05\/junmen2-1024x758.jpg 1024w, https:\/\/www.scottishathletics.org.uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/05\/junmen2-300x222.jpg 300w, https:\/\/www.scottishathletics.org.uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/05\/junmen2-768x569.jpg 768w, https:\/\/www.scottishathletics.org.uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/05\/junmen2.jpg 1440w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 1024px) 100vw, 1024px\"\/><\/a><\/p>\n<p><strong>Our U20 athletes delivered brilliant performances in the uphill only trial\u00a0<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.scottishathletics.org.uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/05\/junwom.jpg\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-large wp-image-115451\" src=\"https:\/\/www.scottishathletics.org.uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/05\/junwom-1024x745.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"1024\" height=\"745\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.scottishathletics.org.uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/05\/junwom-1024x745.jpg 1024w, https:\/\/www.scottishathletics.org.uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/05\/junwom-300x218.jpg 300w, https:\/\/www.scottishathletics.org.uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/05\/junwom-768x558.jpg 768w, https:\/\/www.scottishathletics.org.uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/05\/junwom.jpg 1440w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 1024px) 100vw, 1024px\"\/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>On Sunday the Up-and-Down trials were held above Sedbergh in very blustery conditions.<\/p>\n<p>The athletes were running into the wind on the climb making conditions tough. The senior race also hosted the Inter Counties Mountain Runing Championships where teams of five runners competed for the East, West and North Districts. Runners raced 14.5km and 980m ascent\/descent, over three laps.<\/p>\n<p>In the women\u2019s race, <strong>Naomi Lang<\/strong> (Carnethy) and <strong>Scout Adkin<\/strong> (Moorfoot) battled it out, with Scout taking the lead on the climbs on each lap and Naomi over-hauling her on each of the three descents.\u00a0Naomi duly won by 30 seconds and Scout finished in third.<\/p>\n<p>The Scotland West District team finished in second behind Cumbria. Naomi was backed up by<strong> Emily McNicol<\/strong> (Carnethy) in seventh and <strong>Ella Peters<\/strong> (Westerlands) 17<sup>th<\/sup> with <strong>Louisa Brown<\/strong> (Garscube) finishing third in the U23 competition.
