Tadej Poga\u010dar didn\u2019t just win the toughest stage of the Tour de Romandie<\/a> \u2014 he also offered a pretty candid explanation for why it felt harder than expected.<\/p>\n After edging clear of Florian Lipowitz on the final climb, the race leader pointed to a different kind of preparation catching up with him.<\/p>\n \u201cThe downhill I was really suffering\u2026 he gave me a hard time more on the last part than on the climb,\u201d he said, per Cycling Pro Net<\/a>, as reported by cyclinguptodate<\/a>.<\/p>\n Still, the result put him in a stronger overall position. \u201cNow it\u2019s a little bit bigger gap, so I\u2019m more comfortable for tomorrow.\u201d<\/p>\n The bigger takeaway came when he addressed his build. \u201cI won\u2019t deny that I\u2019m heavier than usual,\u201d he said. \u201cI got a little bit carried away in the gym\u2026maybe now it\u2019s time to back off a little bit.\u201d<\/p>\n In 2025, amid all sorts (like, all sorts, perhaps looking back, a bit too much) of focus on weight on Pauline Ferrand Prevot, she admitted she too had a similar focus. A strong break featuring Michael Leonard, Primo\u017e Rogli\u010d and Valentin Paret-Peintre went clear early, but the race came back together on the final Jaunpass. Poga\u010dar attacked near the top, dropping Lipowitz before the crest. Leonard finished 22nd, moving up to 18th overall.<\/p>\n Will the world champ stop doing curls in his build-up to the Tour de France? TBD. There\u2019s several months before the race begins, this year in Barcelona. Next up for the Slovenian is another prep race for the Grand Boucle, the Tour de Suisse.
