{"id":119430,"date":"2026-04-30T12:54:43","date_gmt":"2026-04-30T12:54:43","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/basketball.runfyers.com\/index.php\/2026\/04\/30\/jog-on-supporting-recovery-with-turning-point-scotland-scottish-athletics\/"},"modified":"2026-04-30T12:54:43","modified_gmt":"2026-04-30T12:54:43","slug":"jog-on-supporting-recovery-with-turning-point-scotland-scottish-athletics","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/basketball.runfyers.com\/index.php\/2026\/04\/30\/jog-on-supporting-recovery-with-turning-point-scotland-scottish-athletics\/","title":{"rendered":"Jog On: Supporting recovery with Turning Point Scotland &#8211; Scottish Athletics"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><\/p>\n<div>\n<p class=\"meta-date\">Thursday 30th April 2026<\/p>\n<p>\t\t\t\t\t<\/p>\n<p>For the last year, jog<strong>scotland<\/strong> has been working in collaboration with <a href=\"https:\/\/turningpointscotland.com\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><strong>Turning Point Scotland<\/strong><\/a> to establish a running group for those accessing recovery services.<\/p>\n<p>\u2018Jog On\u2019 is a programme that aims to assist people in rebuilding their lives after addiction and leaving prison through promoting fitness community, confidence, and hope.<\/p>\n<p>One year on from setting up the running group,\u00a0 we caught up with founder and coach <strong>Colin Thomas<\/strong>, alongside some group members. In the short video below, they share how the group has progressed and how it has impacted their lives.<\/p>\n<p><iframe loading=\"lazy\" title=\"Jog On: Turning Point Scotland\" width=\"696\" height=\"392\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/dcV_5wFMeog?feature=oembed\" frameborder=\"0\" allow=\"accelerometer; autoplay; clipboard-write; encrypted-media; gyroscope; picture-in-picture; web-share\" referrerpolicy=\"strict-origin-when-cross-origin\" allowfullscreen><\/iframe><\/p>\n<p>One service user said:<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI just wanted a life outside drugs, because life\u2019s not easy, regardless of whether you\u2019re sober on drugs it\u2019s still going to hit you hard,<\/p>\n<p>\u201cBut instead of turning to drugs I wanted to find different ways to cope with it. I had to change something, I was just sick of being sick.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI know it\u2019s hard when people are in active addiction, but even just going for a walk, getting out and enjoying nature, it\u2019s so simple but it helps so much.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Another group member said:<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI\u2019ve found since coming to the running group, I\u2019m sticking in with my recovery, I\u2019m 60 days clean. All positive stuff is coming from the exercise,<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIt\u2019s realising that you can make your own positive endorphins in life, you don\u2019t have to take shortcuts to get there.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Colin said:<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI had visions of setting up this group and folk running marathons.
