It is purely a hydration pack, and when the bladder is full, the pack offers no extra room for spare items.<\/p>\n While the central harness system and broad straps offer great support and stability, it may not fit all body types, as it easily comes in the way of medium-to-large breasts.\u00a0<\/p>\n GRVL puts effort into using recycled polyester produced from ocean waste and insists on quality and ethical production. This allowed me to test for comfort when full, as well as stability once the bladder was half-empty, which can lead to some sagging or swaying. It is unreasonable to expect a vest that covers the back and chest not to add any heat, but the less noticeable it is, the better the vest.<\/p>\n Some packs are more practical than others, offering a wide opening to slip a full bladder into the bag, quick-release systems to detach a hose or hang the top of the bladder to the collar area and pockets that are more or less accessible while riding without having to remove the pack.<\/p>\n Lastly, the expected lifetime of a pack makes a big difference to value-for-money calculations. More and more brands offer a repair service or spare parts on demand even if not advertised on their website. Warranty lengths vary from 30 days to 30 years, and combined with the availability of a repair service, they can be a game-changer when considering longevity.<\/p>\n Bladders provided with race- or endurance-oriented packs typically come in 1.5L or 2L sizes. The simplest bladders are made up of an oval plastic pouch on which a hose is mounted which ends in a mouthpiece that the user sucks through to access water. On most cycling hydration vests, the mouthpiece is a bite valve, letting water out when the user squeezes the end in their mouth.<\/p>\n Other models may offer flow dials or on\/off modes on the mouthpiece, a quick-release system to separate the hose from the bladder (useful for cleaning and drying), or soft inserts inside the bladder to make sure that it doesn\u2019t bulge out when full and remains relatively flat and evenly distributed.<\/p>\n Clear hoses make it easier to spot mold or trapped dirt, but it is usually an interchangeable part.\u00a0<\/p>\n Aside from the bladder itself, it is worth mentioning how it interacts with the bag it is stored in.
