{"id":117795,"date":"2026-04-12T12:21:41","date_gmt":"2026-04-12T12:21:41","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/basketball.runfyers.com\/index.php\/2026\/04\/12\/bike-disaster-for-pogacar-van-der-poel-punctures-at-paris-roubaix\/"},"modified":"2026-04-12T12:21:41","modified_gmt":"2026-04-12T12:21:41","slug":"bike-disaster-for-pogacar-van-der-poel-punctures-at-paris-roubaix","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/basketball.runfyers.com\/index.php\/2026\/04\/12\/bike-disaster-for-pogacar-van-der-poel-punctures-at-paris-roubaix\/","title":{"rendered":"Bike Disaster for Poga\u010dar, Van der Poel Punctures at Paris-Roubaix"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><\/p>\n<div>\n<div class=\"justify-start\">\n<nav class=\"align-left col-span-full mb-base\" data-pom-e2e-test-id=\"breadcrumbs\"\/>\n<p>Poga\u010dar forced to chase on a neutral bike and Van der Poel punctured on the Arenberg in wild Paris-Roubaix blowup.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<div><\/p>\n<p class=\"fp-leadCaption py-tight text-left font-utility text-utility3-size leading-utility3-line-height text-secondary\">Poga\u010dar punctured ahead of the Arenberg.<!-- --> (Photo: DIRK WAEM \/ BELGA MAG \/ Belga \/ AFP via Getty Images)<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<div>\n<div class=\"article-body\">\n<p>Updated April 12, 2026 06:43AM<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<p>Double distaster struck Sunday for the two favorites at Paris-Roubaix.<\/p>\n<p>Tadej Poga\u010dar hit turbulence early at Paris-Roubaix even before reaching the decisive forest of Arenberg.<\/p>\n<p>The world champion suffered a mechanical nightmare just moments ahead of the first key decisive phase Sunday, putting him in a desperate chase behind his key rivals just as cycling\u2019s hardest race was heating up.<\/p>\n<p>With about 120 kilometers to go, Poga\u010dar punctured just as UAE Emirates-XRG began to turn the screws at the front.<\/p>\n<p>Things quickly unraveled into a logistical nightmare for Poga\u010dar, who was left stranded without support as the front of the race surged on.<\/p>\n<p>The group had already split under pressure, so there were no team cars immediately behind the lead group.<\/p>\n<p>With no team vehicle in sight, the Slovenian was forced to jump on one of Shimano\u2019s blue neutral service bikes.<\/p>\n<p>Poga\u010dar was forced to ride through one more full sector of cobbles before a team car could reach him to swap out the bike.<\/p>\n<p>The world champion chased alone across another sector to link up with the favorites just ahead of Arenberg.<\/p>\n<h2>Van der Poel punctures on Arenberg<\/h2>\n<p>Just as quickly, the luck swung the other way.<\/p>\n<p>Van der Poel punctured moments after he led onto the Arenberg, and things quickly turned black for the three-time champion.<\/p>\n<p>Alpecin-Premier Tech teammate Jasper Philipsen stopped to pass his bike, but Van der Poel had trouble clipping into the pedals.<\/p>\n<p>He was even forced to walk before a team car could arrive to swap bikes.<\/p>\n<p>The Dutch superstar was more than two minutes in arrears as he exited the notorious sector.
