We explored the pits to find all the new gear and interesting adaptations for the cobbles.&#13;\n<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<div><\/p>\n<p class=\"fp-leadCaption py-tight text-left font-utility text-utility3-size leading-utility3-line-height text-secondary\">Another stunner of a bike was the Trek Madone of Mads Pedersen, who received a special Project One paintjob for Flanders.<!-- --> (Photo: Ties Wijntjes for Velo)<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<div>\n<div class=\"article-body\">\n<p>Published April 6, 2026 01:32PM<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<p>Where Easter Sunday is a moment of reflection and family gatherings for many, for cyclists it has a very different meaning: it is the day of the <a target=\"_blank\" class=\"text-brand-primary underline hover:text-brand-primary\/85 break-words overflow-wrap-anywhere underline-offset-[3px]\" data-afl-p=\"0\" href=\"http:\/\/velo.outsideonline.com\/tag\/tour-of-flanders\" rel=\"noopener\">Tour of Flanders<\/a>. The race is beloved by many not only for its vivid racing, but also for its unique bike tech.<\/p>\n<p>One might expect to see the same tech that we\u2019ve spotted at other spring races, but that isn\u2019t necessarily the case. Sure, it is another cobbled classic \u2014 but it\u2019s also, depending on whom you ask, the most important. That in itself is often a reason for teams to go above and beyond with their gear. They might even learn a thing or two during the race they can apply to gear choices at future races.<\/p>\n<p>Tech at De Ronde nowadays mainly revolves around making riders as aerodynamic as possible, although it isn\u2019t the only factor taken into consideration. On the cobbles, comfort plays a role as well. And with many climbs on the route, teams will try to save a few grams of weight.<\/p>\n<p>We toured the pits before the start of the Tour of Flanders, to see what weird and wonderful bike tech we could find. Besides a new bike, there might not be very much unreleased tech, but there was still more than enough to see, from little tricks that team mechanics use, to different wheel and tire choices and an excess of aero overshoes.
