The NBA has been rather tight-lipped about when an announcement will be made<\/a> about their investigation into the LA Clippers’ behind-the-scenes dealings with Kawhi Leonard. At this point, it seems likely that they will wait for the offseason to not be distracted from the playoffs and NBA Finals.<\/p>\n <\/p>\n A few months ago, it came to light that the Clippers allegedly circumvented the salary cap by paying Leonard millions of dollars under the table via a fictional company. The NBA has been conducting an investigation ever since to decide if the allegations are true and determine a penalty.<\/p>\n <\/p>\n Given the amount of evidence that has been made public at this point, it seems quite likely that the accusations are true. Potential punishments rumored by insiders include financial penalties, a loss of draft picks, and possibly even the voiding of Leonard’s contract<\/a> with the Clippers.<\/p>\n <\/p>\n The question on a lot of people’s minds is when an announcement will be made. It has been a long time since the allegations were announced and the investigation started. Many in the NBA’s orbit have been wondering why it’s taking so long to get an answer from the league on this topic.<\/p>\n <\/p>\n <\/p>\n Commissioner Adam Silver has been clear since day one that he would not rush this process. The accusations are weighty, and the penalties could change the direction of a major NBA franchise, not to mention the league itself. He wants to get it right, which makes perfect sense.<\/p>\n <\/p>\n Given how little of the regular season is left, it also makes sense that the NBA would make its announcement after the NBA Finals are complete. As such, the window to announce the penalties is actually kind of specific.<\/p>\n <\/p>\n The reality is that the league eventually has to step up and deal with this issue. It’s not going away. And if Silver wants the rest of the league to take the salary cap seriously, he’ll likely have to throw the book at the Clippers.
