PULLMAN, Wash. \u2013 After stumbling out the gate, the Portland Pilots put together a stellar three quarters of basketball to defeat the Washington State Cougars 68-61 for their fourth straight win. The Pilots extend what’s been their longest winning streak of the season, now sitting at 15-10 overall and 9-4 in WCC play.

\nRhyan Mogel was electric from outside, scoring 20 points on four made 3-pointers while adding two steals. Mogel becomes the second Pilot this season to score at least 20 points in a game this season, reaching a career high. Dyani Ananiev and Florence Dallow had 11 and 12 points respectively, adding three steals each as well.

\nPortland hit 10 3-pointers in the game, marking the fourth time they’ve hit that total in a game this season and the third time against a Division I team. Seven of those 3-pointers came in the second quarter, the most 3-pointers they’ve hit in a quarter this season. The Pilots also forced 19 turnovers with 13 steals on the evening.

\nThe Pilots struggled in the first quarter, with nothing going through the hoop. They scored two points and shot just 7.7% in the quarter, giving\u00a0up 14 on the other end to trail by 12 after the first 10 minutes.

\nBut the Pilots bounced back in a big way in the second quarter, hitting seven 3-pointers in the period, a season-high. They put together an 8-2 run in the middle of the quarter and then ended\u00a0the period\u00a0with three straight 3-pointers and a 12-0 run. Portland took the lead back with authority to make it 31-27 Pilots.

\nThe third quarter saw Portland do most of their work inside the arc. An 8-0 run from Washington State helped the Cougars retake the lead, but that didn’t last long, as the Pilots proceeded to outscore the Cougars 10-2 over the next three minutes until three minutes remained in the quarter. Portland found success at the free throw line, hitting nine shots from the charity stripe. A halfcourt shot from Florence Dallow made it 53-44 Portland with a quarter to play.

\nThe Pilots handled their business in the final quarter, earning a double-digit lead and not looking back. They hit a pair of 3-pointers to get to 10 made on the night and fended off a last-second push from the Cougars to win 68-61.
