Spanninga has launched a lighting system offering enhanced visibility and intuitive rider interaction.
The new system, named 360° SmartLED, integrates both front and rear lighting into a single unit, delivering a 35-lumen front output and a 10-lumen rear output. According to Spanninga, this configuration provides clear, multi-directional visibility with a range of up to 500 metres.
A key innovation of the 360° SmartLED is the integrated brake light function. By detecting deceleration, the rear light automatically activates a flashing signal for approximately four seconds, alerting surrounding traffic without requiring manual input. This function operates independently of helmet orientation, maintaining consistent visibility regardless of head movement.
The water-resistant product also features a capacitive touch interface with four lighting modes. A two-second press activates a haptic feedback signal, allowing riders to feel a subtle trill directly through the helmet when the light is changing modes. This confirmation allows riders to operate the system safely and intuitively without needing visual confirmation.
When in automatic mode, an integrated light sensor activates the system based on surrounding light conditions, ensuring the rider is always visible when needed.
The system is powered by a rechargeable lithium-ion polymer battery, offering a runtime from 4 up to approximately 18 hours depending on the selected mode. Charging is handled via a magnetic connector (5A/1V), ensuring ease of use and a reliable connection. The module is mounted via a ‘click-and-ready’ interface, enabling quick, secure attachment to the helmet while allowing easy installation and removal for daily use.
“Our work with Spanninga made it possible to create a lighting solution that fits seamlessly into our helmet design while boosting safety and ease of use. The result is a refined, reliable system that truly enhances the riding experience,” said Bastiaan Van Asch, product engineer at Lazer.
