ST. PAUL, Minn. – Four Macalester College women’s basketball players were recognized by the College Sports Communicators for earning Academic All-District honors, the organization announced today. Junior Kendall Bernbaum (Dallas, Texas/Shelton School) and sophomores Cady Davis (Minneapolis, Minn./Roosevelt), Emma Karlin (Rockville, Md./Richard Montgomery) and Samantha Smith (Piedmont, Calif./Piedmont) were included on the Academic All-District Team.
This is the second year on the Academic All-District Team for Bernbaum, who averaged 3.0 points per game while playing in all 24 games this season. A biology major, she ranked third on the team with 19 three-pointers made.
Davis started 23 of the Scots’ 24 games this season after missing the entire campaign last year due to injury. She ranked third on the team in both scoring and rebounding, averaging 7.0 points and 5.1 boards per game. Davis is majoring in environmental studies.
A biology major, Karlin saw her role increase this season, playing in all 24 games with 16 starts after playing in 10 games as a first year. She averaged 4.2 points and 2.8 rebounds per contest.
Smith played in every game and started seven games for Macalester this season. An economics major, she averaged 2.8 points and 1.8 rebounds per game.
Student-athletes must be at least a sophomore, have a cumulative grade-point average of 3.50 or higher and play in 90 percent or start 66 percent of the team’s games to be considered for Academic All-District and All-American accolades.
