ABOUT THE OPPONENT

Iowa (24-5, 15-3) heads to Indianapolis on a six-game win streak from the regular season. The Hawkeyes hold the No. 2 seed for the Big Ten Tournament and will begin postseason action in the Quarterfinals. Iowa won the regular season meeting with the Fighting Illini, 82-78, back on Feb. 26 in Iowa City.

Jan Jenson is in her second season in Iowa City and has led Iowa to a 47-16 record entering the Big Ten Tournament. In Jenson’s first season, Iowa earned the No. 11 seed for the Big Ten Tournament and won its way to Friday’s quarterfinals before falling to Ohio State. The Hawkeyes went on to advance to the Second Round of the NCAA Tournament.

Illinois trails in the all-time series against Iowa, 21-62. Iowa lead 33-5 in neutral site games with the most recent one taking place March 6, 2014 in the Big Ten Tournament in Indianapolis. Iowa won that meeting, 81-62.

SECOND ROUND WIN VS. MICHIGAN STATE

[10] Illinois secured its spot in the Big Ten Tournament quarterfinals with a 71-69 win over [7] No. 18 Michigan State at Gainbridge Fieldhouse in Indianapolis on Thursday evening.

Behind five scorers in double figures, the Fighting Illini advanced to the quarterfinals for the second time under head coach Shauna Green while earning their third ranked victory of the campaign. The Orange and Blue have now won multiple games at the Big Ten Tournament for the first time since 2010-11.

FIRST ROUND WIN VS. WISCONSIN

A pair of 20-point games from Berry Wallace and Destiny Jackson fueled the Illinois women’s basketball team past [15] Wisconsin, 82-70, at Gainbridge Fieldhouse in the First Round of the Big Ten Tournament on Wednesday.

The Fighting Illini (20-10) had four players score in double figures, led by Wallace, who had 22 points and three steals. Jackson added a career-high 21 points, six rebounds, five assists and two steals. Cearah Parchment posted 14 points and broke the program’s freshman season rebounding record. Lety Vasconcelos registered a career-high 12 points while adding six boards.

ROUND 2 VS. BIG TEN FOES

During the 2025-26 season, Illinois is 3-0 in game two against a Big Ten foe. The Illini earned wins over Northwestern (2/22/26), Wisconsin (3/4/26), and Michigan State (3/5/26). UI dropped its first meeting against the Spartans this season, 81-76, in East Lansing back on Jan. 4. A completely different team in round two, the Illini showed their continued growth with a Big Ten Tournament win in the second chance against Michigan State.

20-WIN SEASONS

Thursday’s win secured the third 21-win season in four years at Illinois by Shauna Green. With three 20-win seasons, Green is now tied with Theresa Grentz for the most 20-win campaigns by an Illinois head coach. Across her Division I career, Shauna Green has now collected seven 20-win campaigns across nine “traditional” seasons.

RANKED WINS UNDER SHAUNA GREEN

Illinois’ first ranked win of 2025-26 came over No. 7/6 Maryland, the first top-10 win for Illinois since 2012-13. The victory also marked the highest-ranked Big Ten win in program history. The Illini added another ranked road win at #25/24 Washington on Feb. 1 before tacking on a neutral site win over No. 18/17 Michigan State in the Big Ten Tournament.

In 2024-25, when Illinois went on the road and upset No. 14 Maryland in College Park, Green’s unit became the first team since 1999-2000 to win three games vs. AP Top-25 ranked teams. Green led the team to a 4th ranked win in the NCAA Tournament First Round as Illinois downed No. 23 Creighton, securing a ranked win at home, away, and in a neutral setting. Four ranked wins in a single season tied the program record (1999-00).

The latest win marked the ninth such triumph under fourth-year head coach Shauna Green, who guided the Illini to ranked wins six times in Big Ten league play.

Green’s nine wins over ranked teams are the second-most in Illinois program history behind Theresa Grentz’ 26. Overall, Green is 9-23 against top-25 foes.
