Pair of Stellar Games Nets Simonsen’s Seventh Weekly Conference Award – Radford University Athletics

CHARLOTTE, N.C. – After scoring 20+ points in back-to-back games to finish the regular season, Georgia Simonsen was announced the Big South Freshman of the Week by the conference office earlier today.

Simonsen scored a career high 24 points in the win against Presbyterian, missing just four shots (12-16) and having over a point a minute. The Fairfax native followed Wednesday’s game with another breakout performance with 20 points and nine rebounds against Gardner-Webb on Saturday. She grabbed five important boards in the fourth quarter that helped Radford win a close game and reach 20 victories on the season for the first time since 2018-19. Simonsen is the first Radford freshman to score 20+ points in consecutive games since at least 2011-12.

This is Simonsen’s seventh freshman of the week award. It ties Ashlyn Traylor-Walker’s seven the former Highlander had during the 2022-23 as the most in a single-season in program history (the award dates to the 1990-91 season).

The Highlanders head to the Air Force Reserves Big South Tournament in Johnson City, Tenn., aiming for a crown and birth in the NCAA Tournament. They begin with a matchup against Charleston Southern at 6:00 p.m. in the quarterfinals on Thursday, March 5. Tickets are on sale now and can be purchased HERE.
