Box Score STATEN ISLAND, N.Y. – The Wagner College women’s basketball team defeated Le Moyne by a score of 59-45 to improve to 4-3 in NEC play at the Spiro Sports Center on Thursday night.
The Seahawks (8-10, 4-3 NEC) set the tone early, opening the game with a 16-point first quarter and maintaining control throughout. Wagner’s outscored Le Moyne 19-4 in the second quarter to take a commanding halftime lead of 35-15.
The Dolphins outpaced the Seahawks 30-24 in the second half, but it was not enough as Wagner prevailed by a 14-point margin.
Balanced scoring fueled Wagner’s victory, with three players reaching double figures. Senior Irene Fernandez de Caleya led the way with 15 points and seven rebounds, while redshirt senior Priscila Varela added 13 points, knocking down a pair of three-pointers.
Sophomore Keana Foz chipped in 12 points, five rebounds, and three steals providing a steady inside presence. Junior Lijirin Doyinsola Modesayor scored eight points and grabbed a team-high 11 rebounds.
The Seahawks turned defense into offense with 22 points off Le Moyne’s 19 turnovers, while only surrendering four points off miscues and turning the ball over only eight times.
Defensively, Wagner limited Le Moyne to just 29.1 percent shooting overall and held them to 2-of-15 from three-point range. The Seahawks closed the game with an 8-point fourth quarter effort, sealing the win and improving their NEC record.
As a team, Wagner outscored Le Moyne 34–20 in the paint and converted turnovers into 22 points, a decisive factor in the contest. The Seahawks held Le Moyne to just 29.1 percent shooting from the field and 13.3 percent from three-point range, showcasing a disciplined defensive effort across all four quarters.
