Halfords cycling sales up 6.4%, big sales growth in eBikes and premium

Halfords group sales and profitability grew in the 53 weeks to 3 April 2026. Like-for-like sales were up 4.1% for its retail channel, with cycling up 6.4% (motoring grew 2.9%).

Heathy growth continued in the second half of the year (FY26) albeit not at the same level as the “exceptionally strong” 9% l-f-l growth delivered in the first half.

Halfords picked out eBikes as “a particular highlight”, with fast growing sales despite it historically an area where Halfords has had lower share. The business picked out a crucial point around the eBike battery headlines: “We see a clear opportunity for a business with Halfords’ reputation for reliability and performance to grow our position in this higher price point area of the market, particularly in the context of safety concerns linked to an unregulated online market including the sale of illegal conversion kits.”

Halfords plans significant expansion of its eBike ranges in its FY27, including an all-new Carrera range of mountain and hybrid eBikes “which include high-quality integrated batteries, components from trusted brands and robust aftersales care”.

Halfords said it has also now offered its support to the industry’s “E-bike Positive” accreditation scheme, providing consumers with the reassurance that any eBike purchased from Halfords meets stringent quality and safety standards

More broadly speaking, the recovery in cycling sales has been, for Halfords, supported by volume growth as well as an increase in average selling price. Tredz, its online premium cycling business has led the growth: “Our approach to category management is also being applied here, overseen by a newly created Cycling Director role spanning both Halfords and Tredz, and we are already realising synergies from this more joined up approach having recently launched click and collect for Tredz orders through selected Halfords stores.”

Furthermore, Halfords revealed its focus has been on “better execution of the retail basics” including simplifying processes, rationalising ranges and optimising pricing and promotion.

Halfords says its share of the UK bike market is huge – selling half of all bikes in the UK.
