Canyon has updated the componentry available on its Aeroad CFR frames, meaning riders can now spec the formerly pro-only CP0053 Race cockpit, or fit it as an aftermarket purchase on other backwards compatible frames.
This is claimed to save weight and reduce the drag of the overall Aeroad system to 198 watts, as tested by Tour magazine.
Other changes to the Aeroad CFR include an updated drive side dropout to make the Aeroad UDH compatible. This should make it easier for riders to source replacement hangers if they encounter mechanical issues when out and about.
Canyon has also expanded customisation in other areas of the MyCanyon portal with riders able to adjust crank length, stem length, drop handlebar options and cassette size, and an increased range of seatposts and wheelsets is now available. There are also five new frame colour schemes to choose from.
Canyon Race Bar

Canyon’s CP0053 Race Bar is the race-focused successor to the more practically-minded CP0048 Pace Bar, which features a modular design that allows riders to change bar width and swap in different drop shapes without removing bar tape.
The Race Bar is an integrated one-piece design without any adjustability, although it does come in two widths (350mm and 375mm) and seven lengths. The bar is a swept-forward curve that allows riders to take up a more aerodynamic position because of the 10mm additional reach and a negative stem angle that results in a 20mm lower effective stack height.

Canyon claims that the Race Bar is stiffer than the Pace Bar, lighter by 120g and is two watts more efficient in the wind tunnel, though no speeds have been provided. The suggestion is that this aerodynamic gain can increase to around 25 watts in real-world conditions once you factor in the rider’s smaller frontal surface.
