The Athletics Trust Scotland Young People’s Forum (YPF) met together once again on Sunday 7 June at the Glasgow International Arena for another packed and productive day of learning, discussion, and collaboration.
The day began with an Assistant Officials Course delivered by our very own Officials Development Officer, Shona Malcolm-Martin.
The session gave Forum members a hands-on introduction to Officiating, with participants getting the opportunity to experience a range of roles across athletics disciplines.
From long jump and shot put to track events, the group enjoyed learning about the processes involved in delivering competitions, with the workshop proving both engaging and highly enjoyable.
Following this, members took part in an interactive RED-s content creation workshop led by Digital Content Creator, Eilidh Miller, and Exercise Physiologist, Alex Fraser.
Alex kicked things off with a fun and informative quiz before members worked in small groups to develop creative social media content aimed at raising awareness about Relative Energy Deficiency in Sport (RED-s).
Drawing on inspiration from current social media trends, the groups produced a range of informative and engaging video concepts designed to connect with young athletes and highlight one of the forum’s key themes of athlete health.
To round off the Workshop, members were challenged to create 30-second social media adverts explaining why chocolate milk is the ultimate recovery drink for athletes.
The task sparked plenty of creativity and fun, with each group presenting their own unique take on the brief. We look forward to seeing their creations!
The day concluded with sub group discussions led by Lindsay McMahon and Francesca Snitjer.
These were centred on the Forum’s key themes of athlete health, retention in sport, and inclusion, allowing members to continue shaping their ideas and initiatives that can positively impact our sport across Scotland in these areas.
Another successful and enjoyable day for the Young People’s Forum, with members leaving inspired, informed, and ready to continue making a difference within our sport.
