The numbers on Spain’s bicycle market last year (2025) are in and the sector continues to move towards “an orderly and balanced market” with a moderation in the decline of bicycle sales (-0.7%).
The stats, compiled and presented by AMBE (Spanish Association of Bicycle Brands) and Cofidis, revealed that the sector generates €2.177 billion in revenue (5.9% less than 2024) with 1,093,478 bicycles sold (0.7% fewer than in 2024).
The sector maintains 25,000 direct jobs and the average price of a bicycle sold in Spain was €1,281.71, driven by the mid-range and high-end segments, especially electric bicycles, which represented 21.5% of units sold and 35.2% of bicycle revenue.
Mountain bikes continue to lead, accounting for half of the market value, while road bikes reached almost 38%, including the gravel category, which is consolidating its position as an upward trend, said AMBE.
For those looking to compare other local markets, the 2025 stats from Germany and the UK were released earlier this month.
Average Bicycle Price
The average price of a bicycle sold in Spain increased to €1,281.71, driven by the mid-range and high-end segments, especially electric bicycles, which accounted for 21.5% of units sold and 35.2% of revenue. Electrification is also dominating urban mobility: 55.4% of urban bicycles sold were electric, solidifying the eBike as a key driver of the sector and reflecting the growing adoption of more sustainable mobility habits.
In accessories, clothing and eyewear lead in sales volume, followed by helmets and tyres. In terms of units sold, drivetrains, brakes, and tyres are the top sellers, reflecting the continued demand for essential components.
Mountain Bikes and Road Bikes Lead the Market
Mountain bikes account for half of the bicycle market value (50.81%), followed by road bikes (37.94%), urban mobility bikes (5.65%), and children’s bikes (5.60%). In terms of units sold, mountain bikes lead the way, followed by children’s bikes, road bikes, and urban mobility bikes. Electric mountain bikes dominate sales in terms of revenue, while road bikes continue to be dominated by traditional bicycles due to their use in sports. Gravel bikes, meanwhile, are consolidating their position as a growing category, with increasing electrification.
Points of Sale and Employment
The number of points of sale remains stable, with 2,907 establishments, slightly below the 2,916 of the previous year. AMBE said: “The bicycle sector demonstrates its capacity for adaptation and transformation, as the importance of services such as repair shops and rentals grows.”
Following strong post-pandemic growth, the sector is going through a phase of adjustment and stabilisation, said AMBE. Both sell-in and sell-out (sales to the end customer) show that, although volumes have decreased slightly, the market is moving towards a new equilibrium, with a more moderate adjustment in revenue than in previous years (-5.9%). This process allows companies to plan strategies with greater certainty and project more sustainable future growth, the association pointed out.
